About Robert Burns

Robert Burns is an enterprise IT service leader with nine years of experience leading operational teams within VMware’s EUC division. Based in Cork, Ireland, his background is rooted in governance, escalation management, and risk-sensitive environments. In recent months, he has undertaken an intensive examination of AI-augmented work and its organisational implications. His focus is not on model behaviour, but on how AI reshapes team dynamics, accountability structures, and implicit governance mechanisms. He speaks on emerging structural risks in AI-enabled organisations and the need to deliberately redesign vigilance as AI accelerates decision-making.

When AI Collapses Teams: An Emerging Governance Risk in AI Augmented Organisations

Organisations are rapidly adopting artificial intelligence to accelerate decision making, increase productivity, and reduce reliance on large teams. These productivity gains are real and increasingly visible. However, this shift introduces an underexamined governance risk that is not primarily technical, but organisational. In his presentation, Robert Burns explores the governance risks that emerge when teams are collapsed, not because AI systems fail, but because organisational structures change. Robert will also reframe AI risk as a question of organisational design and assurance, rather than model behaviour or compliance maturity. Ultimately, he will provide insights that help practitioners recognise an emerging governance blind spot before it materialises as operational, ethical, or assurance failure.
